So I went to church today and was reading the book. There were a few people that saw me reading and went on to ask what book I was reading. As I told them I was reading Catcher in the Rye they went on to tell me how bad the book was and how I wasn't going to be able to follow along becuase it was so hard to follow along with. As I was reading the first 4 chapters I soon found myself in the same spot they told me I would be on. A librarian was telling me how she didnt like how Holden had verbal diarrhea. Hopefully I will be able to follow along in this book and understand for our group discussions in class. But so far Holden seems really self centered to me. The part in the book that stands out most to me is when he was sitting on his teachers bed and all he could think about was how uncompfortable the bed was instead of why he failed his english class. I also think that he doesnt like to apply himself to anything. For example in the book it had said that he hadnt looked at his book except one time that semester and even then he just glanced through it. He failed 4 out of 5 subjects and the only reason it was 4 not 5 is becuase he had already taken and passed the english class and it was just like reveiw for him. Hopefully I will start to like the book and be able to apply myself more to it that way I don't fail this unit.
