Adult? Na probably not!
Holden is becoming an "adult" in these last few chapters. It seems that he is starting to do things that men do. Weather they are legal or not. For example when he was talking with the nuns and they were having troubles he was helping them out and being respectful. He even gave them money and didn't regret it. I guess living on his own and surviving would be another example because no kid would be able to go out and live on his own. I think that it is really interesting to see the conversations he gets in and the people he meets. It's even more interesting to hear what he thinks about how it went and how you think it went or how you would act in that situation. I think that Holden overall is an interesting character. I think that he has changed even from the first part of the book until now.

I most definitely agree with you! But I do think that Holden is becoming more of an adult as these chapters go on. I mean, from what i've seen, he was always such a critical person at the beginning of the book. And he was just a child because he would always seem to get into fights. But once he started talking to the nuns, he seemed like he was actually comfortable talking to them!
ReplyDeleteI think Holden just has these conversations with mature people to make up for past immaturity. Notice that when he does have conversations, he offers a drink, or pulls out a cigarette. Weve seen how immature he can be, but he likes to make up for it.
